MCS sichtbar machen - Der besondere Tag

Beitragvon Janik » Sonntag 5. Juni 2011, 09:32

Am 6. Juni ist das Tag an dem Aktivisten und MCS Betroffene ihre Krankheit "sichtbar" machen.

Auf Facebook gibt z.B. es eine extra angelegte Seite dafür:

Hi all,

June 6 is Day of Visibility, where people try to raise awareness about hidden disabilities. Here is the FaceBook page for this year's.

I've decided to blog about the homelessness rate in the MCS community.

I am requesting PHOTOGRAPHS from MCSers that shows their HIDDENNESS. I need these right away.

Here's what I'm looking for.

- Photos of you and/or other MCSers who are homeless. If you have a picture of yourself living in your tent, your car, on a porch, whatever, that is ideal.

- Photos of yourself when you were unable to leave your home, especially if you were also unable to use the internet, the phone, etc., or confined to one room, etc.

Important:

* Please only send ONE OR TWO photos. Choose the ones that most represent your isolation or invisibility. Backgrounds that show your isolation are best, as opposed to smiling headshots. They should be fairly good quality pics. If they are too grainy or blurry, I might not be able to use them.

* Only send photos of yourself or other people who have agreed to have their image on the internet. Do not send photos of people you don't know.

* Be aware that sending me your photo means that you are giving me permission to post it on my blog. I get ~100 visits/day, so if you don't want your picture seen by a lot of people, don't send it (OR use one of the anonymous options below).

* If you are OK with having your photo appear online, but don't want your name to appear, that is fine. Let me know if I should just use your first name or initials, etc.

* If I think your picture and/or story are particularly compelling, but you don't want to be identifiable, I can blur/distort your face and not use your name. If this is the only way you're comfortable sharing your photo, let me know.

* Please INCLUDE A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION about the photo/your situation at the time it was taken. For example, "My name is Sharon Wachsler. This photo is from 1998, when I had to flee my apartment because my landlord sprayed pesticide outside my kitchen. This is the friend's couch I was sleeping on. I'm wearing a mask and taking oxygen while I sleep because she had a gas stove, so I was sick the whole time I was there."

Or, "My name is Sharon. I had to leave my home of 10 years because a golf course was being built half a mile away, and the fumes from logging (diesel machinery, burning brush) were making me sick. This is the tent I was sleeping in with my dog in the Wendell Forest in Western Massachusetts. Once a week, someone brought me food, fresh water, and batteries for my flashlights. I lived here for 8 months until I found a safe home."

Just a few sentences to caption the picture, where it was taken, what it is of, and your circumstances/how you came to be there. (By the way, neither of the example sentences above are true; I was never displaced for more than a few weeks, when I had to stay with my parents.)

- You can get an idea of what I do by visiting my blog, After Gadget. I usually post about service dog training, but sometimes I also write about MCS, CFIDS, Lyme disease, disability rights, and other related issues.

**Please email your photo as a small or medium sized photo (if it's too large, I won't be able to download it) as an attachment in JPG or GIF format to ME -- not to this list! My email is swachsler at aol.

Feel free to forward this to friends who might be interested.

***I need these in the next 24 hours or so. Sorry for the hurry, but I just figured out what I want to do right now.

Peace,
Sharon Wachsler (and Barnum, SDiT?)
